Young Living Essential Oils

Okay ladies, truth time: when you find something that is just amazing, what do you do?  You SHARE IT!  Hairdresser who gave you a fabulous new ‘do?  Great pediatrician?  Sale at your favorite store or website?  No matter what it is, when we find something that works for us, we tend to shout it from the rooftops, telling anyone who will stop long enough to listen.  Well consider this my shouting voice: I LOVE YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS!!!  If you’ve read my other blog posts, you know that I’m passionate about all things natural (crunchy, as I like to call it).  I’ve grown very skeptical of drugs, whether over the counter medications, prescriptions, antibiotics, or vaccines.  Wait, don’t stop reading yet… If you don’t share my skepticism that’s okay.  Stay with me for just another minute and give me a chance to explain before you dismiss me.  Are you still here?  Good!  Think about all the warnings on medicine bottles.  Think about the possible side effects.  Think about how many TV ads you’ve seen regarding the FDA recalling a medication, telling you “if you or someone you know have had any of these side effects, you may be entitled to compensation.”  Do I think all drugs are bad all the time?  Absolutely not.  Do I think that they are used too often, many times used to treat the symptoms instead of the actual problem, and can induce a list of side effects for which other drugs are needed?  Yes, yes I do.  I believe that medications are great when they’re needed, but not so much as a first resort.  And I believe antibiotics are overprescribed, especially when prescribed for a viral infection since antibiotics target bacterial infections.  This improper use has been suspected of contributing to the rise in antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria such as MRSA.  The CDC says:

“When someone takes an antibiotic that they do not need, they are needlessly exposed to the side effects of the drug and do not get any benefit from it. Moreover, taking an antibiotic when it is not needed can lead to the development of antibiotic resistance . When resistance develops, antibiotics may not be able to stop future infections. Every time someone takes an antibiotic they don’t need, they increase their risk of developing a resistant infection in the future.” [1]

So what is my crunchy solution for natural medicine without the harmful side effects?  Young Living Essential Oils.

What are Young Living Essential Oils?

“An essential oil is that aromatic, volatile liquid that is within many shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds and that is usually extracted through steam distillation. The chemistry of an essential oil is very complex and may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds.  Moreover, essential oils are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried herbs because of the distillation process that makes them so concentrated.” [2]

All of the potent healing properties are packed into a super-concentrated oil, requiring only a small amount for maximum benefits.  We know that there are healing properties in plants, as they’ve been used for thousands of years medicinally.  Essential oils are even mentioned in the bible over 200 times, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, and were considered very valuable.  In fact, probably the most notable mention of essential oils in the bible are when the Three Kings presented to Jesus their gifts of frankincense and myrrh (and gold…but that’s not an oil!).  “Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary His mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11 (HCSB)  Later, Jesus was anointed at the temple with spikenard, another very valuable oil. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. John 12:3 (KJV)  Other oils that we see in the bible are cassia, cinnamon, hyssop, cedarwood, sandalwood, myrtle, and cypress, just to name a few.

That explains essential oils, but what’s so special about Young Living Essential Oils?  They carry only high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils.  While other companies use the cheaper 2nd-4th distillation of oils, Young Living only uses the 1st distillation.  Why does that matter?  Think of it like brewing coffee.  The first brew is delicious, but if you were to brew the same grounds over and over again, each brew would get weaker and weaker.  This is only one reason Young Living is a superior oil to the kind you could get in a health store.  Another thing you will notice is that those oils in the store will have a warning that they are not safe for internal consumption.  All Young Living oils are safe for internal consumption (except for oils that aren’t meant to be consumed no matter the quality).  Another great thing about Young Living is that they have control over farms across the world, growing plants in the climates in which they thrive and controlling them from “seed to seal”, and even opening up those farms to visitors.  They test each batch of oils for quality in their labs, and even send them out for third-party testing as well.  Any oils not up to their standards are not sold.  They truly care about the quality of their oils and the health of those who use them.

What are some uses of Essential Oils?

Essential oils can be used medicinally to treat a number of ailments such as the following: cuts, scrapes, burns, aches, pains, headaches, nausea, fevers, illnesses, mood disorders, ADD/ADHD and autism symptoms, depression, anxiety, bacterial and viral infections, trouble sleeping, sore throat.  This list is not exhaustive by any means.  In addition to medicinal uses, essential oils can also be used for household cleaning and in your personal care items.  Many of the oils are antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, and/or antifungal in nature.  This is why they make the perfect addition to your cleaning supplies in your home.  And unlike triclosan (the most common ingredient in antibacterial soaps), they will target harmful bacterias without killing good bacterias, and will not contribute to the rise in antibiotic resistant bacteria.  In addition, many essential oils are actually very beneficial to your overall health, whether as an ingredient in your facial lotion or your toothpaste (ie: frankincense for the skin and clove for the teeth).

How Do You Order Young Living Essential Oils?

There are two ways you can purchase from Young Living, and those two ways are as a retail customer or as a wholesale member.  If you’d like to order as a retail customer, all you do is sign up and purchase whatever you’d like at retail prices.  However, if you’d like to get the wholesale discount of 24%, you may sign up as a wholesale member with the purchase of a kit.  When you do this, you are never obligated to sell anything to anybody (unless you want to).  You simply must order $50 in a year to keep your discount.  That’s easy, trust me!  Especially if you use the oils on a regular basis like I do!  There are 3 kits from which to choose when you sign up as a wholesale member.

Basic Starter Kit ($40)

When you purchase the Basic Starter Kit, you will receive 10 YL oil samples (2 each of Lavender, Lemon, Peace & Calming, Peppermint, and Thieves), a 5 ml bottle of Stress Away essential oil blend, 2 NingXia Red samples, AromaGlide roller fitment, and information about Young Living’s essential oils, plus your lifetime wholesale membership. This is all you need to get started as a wholesale member with Young Living.

Basic Plus Starter Kit ($75)

Another option is to purchase the Basic Plus Starter Kit, which saves you 35%, as compared to purchasing the Basic Kit. This kit comes with everything in the Basic Kit, plus a FREE home diffuser!

Premium Starter Kit ($150)

This is by far my favorite kit, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get a wholesale membership, and here’s why.  Not only will you receive everything in the basic kit, but you will also receive a FREE home diffuser and the Everyday Oils Kit, which includes 11 of Young Living’s most popular oils: Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Thieves, PanAway, Peace & Calming, Joy, Stress Away, Frankincense, Purification, and Lavender. Each bottle contains 85-100 drops of oil so this collection gets you around 900 drops. A typical application is 1-4 drops so they will last you awhile. This is the best value you can get, and all of these oils will replace just about everything in your medicine cabinet. That is why I highly recommend signing up for wholesale and purchasing this kit to get you and your family started out right on your journey to discover natural healing through Young Living Essential Oils.
